The F-35 Lightning II is an American fifth-generation multirole stealth fighter developed by Lockheed Martin for the United States and allied air forces. Designed to perform air-to-air, air-to-ground, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and electronic warfare missions, it incorporates low-observable features, advanced sensors and networked systems. It is produced in three variants for conventional, short take-off and vertical landing, and carrier operations. It entered service in 2015 and remains in production and widespread service today.
