Slovakia signed a $1.6 billion deal with Lockheed Martin in 2018 to purchase 14 F-16 Block 70 fighter jets, aiming to replace its aging fleet of Russian-made MiG-29s. The first two of these advanced multirole jets were delivered on July 22, 2024, marking a significant step in modernizing Slovakia's air defense capabilities .

The F-16 Block 70s are equipped with cutting-edge avionics, enhanced weapon systems, and superior performance, making them a crucial asset for bolstering NATO's eastern flank security amid ongoing regional tensions .
