The Harrier GR5 was a major upgrade of the British Harrier series, entering Royal Air Force service in 1993. It featured improved avionics, navigation systems, and weapons capabilities over the GR3/GR7, enhancing its close air support, reconnaissance, and ground-attack roles. The GR5 served with several RAF squadrons until it was gradually upgraded or replaced by the GR7 and later GR9 variants, continuing the Harrier’s tradition of V/STOL operations from both land bases and aircraft carriers.
