In 1957, the "Super Star" joined the Lufthansa fleet and was the first to feature Senator Class, the most exclusive travel option. Its primary route was the connection to New York, flying non-stop across the North Atlantic. With its four piston engines, it closed the chapter on classic propeller aircraft. These flights, which lasted up to 17 hours, took off from Hamburg, where the maintenance base was also located. Therefore, the roll-out of the restored D-ALAN on January 20, 2025, took place at a location that was equally significant for Lufthansa and Lufthansa Technik.
