HA8328 | Hobby Master Military 1:48 | Spitfire Mk IXc MA466/BQ-S, No. 451 (RAAF) Sqn., Corsica, May 1944 | is due August 2025
The Spitfire Mk. IXc was introduced in 1942 as a stopgap answer to the German Fw 190, which had outclassed earlier Spitfire marks. Based on the Mk. V airframe but equipped with the more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin 61/63/66 engines, the Mk. IXc restored the Spitfire’s competitiveness with high-altitude performance and improved speed. The “c” wing allowed for multiple armament configurations, typically two 20 mm Hispano cannons and four .303 machine guns, or variations thereof. It served widely across Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Pacific, used by the RAF and Allied air forces, and became one of the most numerous and versatile Spitfire variants. Reliable, adaptable, and beloved by pilots, the Mk. IXc remained in frontline service until the war’s end and beyond.
