The F-86 Sabre entered ROCAF service in the early 1950s, supplied by the United States to strengthen Taiwan’s air defenses during the Cold War. It served primarily as a transonic fighter, excelling in air-to-air combat against contemporary threats from the People’s Republic of China. The Sabre remained a frontline aircraft for several decades before being gradually replaced by more modern fighters such as the F-5 and F-16.
