The Mitsubishi F-2 entered Japan Air Self-Defence Force service in 2000 as a single-engine multirole fighter developed jointly by Japan and the United States from the F-16. It performs air-defence, maritime-strike and ground-attack missions and features a larger wing, increased internal fuel capacity and advanced Japanese avionics. The F-2 remains in active Japanese service.
