The A-6 Intruder entered US Navy service in 1963 as a two-seat, carrier-based, all-weather attack aircraft. It used advanced radar and navigation systems to deliver heavy conventional and precision-guided weapon loads at low altitude and in poor visibility. The Intruder served extensively in Vietnam and the Gulf War before being retired from US military service in 1997.
