HA8329 | Hobby Master Military 1:48 | Spitfire Mk. VIII A53-379, flown by F/L David Glaser, No. 549 Sqn., Strauss Airstrip, Sept 1944 | is due: August 2025
The Spitfire Mk. VIII was a refined variant of the famous British fighter, introduced in 1943 as an improved, long-range development of the Mk. V. It featured a strengthened airframe, retractable tailwheel, enlarged rudder, and extended wingtips (in some versions) for better high-altitude performance, all powered by the Merlin 61/63/66 series engines. Unlike the Mk. IX, which was a stopgap, the Mk. VIII was designed from the outset to handle the new powerplants, making it one of the most capable Spitfire variants. It saw extensive service in the Mediterranean, North Africa, and the Pacific, where its performance and reliability proved vital in diverse climates and missions.
