The EA-18G Growler entered US Navy operational service in 2009 as a carrier-based electronic-warfare aircraft derived from the two-seat F/A-18F Super Hornet. It is used to detect, jam and suppress hostile radar and communications systems while retaining limited air-to-air and strike capability. It remains in production support and active service with the US Navy and Royal Australian Air Force.
