The YF-23 was an American prototype stealth fighter developed by Northrop and McDonnell Douglas as part of the US Air Force's Advanced Tactical Fighter programme. Featuring a distinctive diamond-shaped wing, canted tail surfaces and recessed engines, it was designed to combine exceptional stealth, speed and long-range air-superiority capability. It competed against the YF-22 but was not selected for production, with the YF-22 ultimately becoming the F-22 Raptor.
