A note from the Author, Andy Marden:
After a long break, welcome to the sixth edition of World Military Out of Service. As usual, the main aim is to detail out of service military aircraft which can be found on airfields, preserved in towns and museums, junked in scrapyards or simply just rotting away by the side of a road. Also included are warbirds, although bear in mind that these do move around a lot! Current civil registrations are shown where known. I have included some c/ns, but generally ONLY when they have been read from the aircraft concerned. The aircraft are listed in alphabetic order of manufacturer. In the case of license-built aircraft, I have used the licensed name if it is different from the original, so for example license built Chinese MiG-17s can be found under Shenyang. However, I have tended to use the original manufacturer’s name if the aircraft retained the same type name – the Australian built Canberras are therefore listed under English Electric rather than Government Aircraft Factories. Aircraft are wearing the marks of the ‘home’ country except where shown. One perennial problem is deciding what is WFU and what is not, as in many countries almost no aircraft fly regularly. I have concentrated on the permanently withdrawn machines in these cases, but please be aware that some flyers may have inadvertently crept in. Some of the information is dated, however these aircraft may still exist. GPS co-ordinates are given where known. One change this time is that I have removed the vast majority of entries for China. Listing single, usually unidentified, fighters in places no-one is ever likely to visit adds about 10% to the size of the book. I have therefore only included the two more visited provinces, Beijing and Shanghai, plus Hong Kong. That said, I do still keep notes of the others, so if you need a copy, just get in touch (see Email below). Finally, please remember that this book is intended as a reference work. It is not an authority to trespass on private or government property! Given the current security climate this is not recommended. This is particularly important in some countries where our hobby is easily misunderstood.
