The Fw 190 entered Luftwaffe service in 1941 as a single-seat fighter powered by a BMW 801 radial engine. Renowned for its rugged construction, heavy armament and excellent low- and medium-altitude performance, it was developed into numerous fighter, fighter-bomber and ground-attack variants. The Fw 190 served throughout the Second World War and was retired from military service shortly after the conflict ended.
