The Panavia Tornado entered service in 1979 as a twin-engine, variable-sweep multirole combat aircraft developed by the United Kingdom, West Germany and Italy. It was designed primarily for low-level strike, interdiction and reconnaissance missions, with later variants specialising in air defence and electronic warfare. The Tornado served extensively in NATO operations, including the Gulf War.
