The A-4 Skyhawk entered service with the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) in 1970, replacing older fighter and attack aircraft. Operated primarily as a light attack and training aircraft, the Skyhawks were used for air defense, ground-attack exercises, and pilot training, often in cooperation with allied forces. The RNZAF retired the fleet in 2001, after more than three decades of service, having modernized avionics and weapons during its operational life.
