The F-4 Phantom II is an American twin-engine, two-seat multirole fighter developed by McDonnell Aircraft for the US Navy. Designed for fleet defence, interception and ground attack, it was later adopted by the US Air Force and Marine Corps and exported to numerous countries. It entered US Navy service in 1961 and remains in service with a small number of operators today.
