The RF-4 Phantom II entered US Air Force service in 1964 as a dedicated reconnaissance variant of the F-4 Phantom II. It replaced the fighter’s nose-mounted cannon and radar with cameras and sensors for tactical reconnaissance missions, while retaining the Phantom’s speed, range and survivability. The RF-4 served extensively during the Vietnam War and remained in service with several air forces until its retirement from US service in 1995.
