On April 12, 1989 in the Landor scheme, while flying from Christchurch to Sydney, Concorde G-BOAF experienced a rudder separation failure, where part of the upper rudder was lost in flight. This was the first such incident on a Concorde, and it led to similar failures on other aircraft in the fleet. The loss of the rudder section did not significantly affect the aircraft's handling, and the crew only became aware of it after being informed by air traffic control upon landing.
