The F4U-4 Corsair was a late-World War II variant of the famous Vought Corsair, entering U.S. Navy and Marine Corps service in 1944. It featured a more powerful engine, strengthened airframe, and improved armament, giving it enhanced speed, climb rate, and payload capability over earlier versions. The F4U-4 served primarily in carrier-based and land-based operations, excelling in fighter, ground-attack, and close air support roles in the Pacific theater and later in the Korean War, maintaining the Corsair’s reputation as a rugged and highly effective combat aircraft.
