The Shenyang J-15 “Flying Shark” is a carrier-based multirole fighter developed by China, entering People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) service in the early 2010s. Derived from the Soviet Su-33 design, it is equipped with modern Chinese avionics, weapons, and engines, and operates from carriers such as the Liaoning and Shandong. The J-15 performs air superiority, strike, and maritime attack missions, giving the PLAN its first generation of carrier-capable fighters, though it faces challenges with range, payload, and carrier operations compared to Western equivalents.
